Ottavio was born of a family tradition of Italian food since the 1920's. Ottavio is another third generation family business started in 1997 by Monica Pozzolo and Andrew Moyer in Oak Bay. As the proprietors and sole employees (with the help of Ubalda in the shop) we opened Ottavio with fresh bread and pastries from the Italian Bakery, nine cheeses, Italian pantry items, an espresso machine and four stools at the counter. The tradition of baking excellence and family tradition is continued into the third generation by Alberto and Janet Pozzolo at the original Italian Bakery location. They created the venerable institution, on Quadra Street at Tolmie, The Italian Bakery, where they were the first to introduce butter croissants and Italian pastries to the west coast of Canada. Ubalda, pastries, where they broadened their products to include hand rolled breads in addition to northern Italian cookies, in 1978, Canada, immigrated to Victoria, her husband and two children, the daughter of the family, cakes and gelato. Ottavio's Nonno and Nonna owned a pasticceria, Italy, bar and Gelateria in Torino, for over 40 years. Nine years later Ottavio is Vancouver Island's #1 Delicatessen and Specialty Grocery retailer, with Monica and Andrew at the helm of a shop with 22 employees, 240 artisanal cheeses, unique cured meats and the city's best olives, an unrivaled selection of specialty dried goods from olive oils to pastas and Tuscan chocolate, Italian Bakery breads, our own organic and local fruit gelato, a licensed cafe and terrazzo offering light fare, Illy coffee and lunches and special events to enliven Oak Bay Village and encourage and strengthen our local food community.Read more...
