Elizabeth Buckley School is an independent K-6 school located at the Cridge Centre for the Family in Victoria, B.C. EBS offers an exceptional education based on the B.C. curriculum, and enrichment programs to enhance students' learning opportunities. Our classrooms are warm, inclusive environments that serve both "typical" children and those with special needs. Today Elizabeth Buckley School continues to offer services to hearing impaired students within the context of a more diverse student population. As a struggling young widow, Buckley opened a school in her home, and provided a valuable service to many. The name Elizabeth Buckley was chosen to honour Bourey's grandmother, an inspirational teacher in New York. The school provides a solid educational foundation and nurtures a life-long love of learning.Nancy Bourey, a teacher and a Speech and Language Pathologist, founded Elizabeth Buckley School in 1986 to provide educational opportunities for the deaf and hard of hearing. Low student to teacher ratios ensure that each child's unique needs are addressed within a secure, nurturing environment. At EBS, experienced B.C. College of Teachers certified educators and skilled Education Assistants work to support each student on his or her individual journey to success. Kindergarten is a full-day academic program. In keeping with our roots, we offer ASL instruction to all students in the school and use a "total communication" approach during instruction.
